Finally here goes! The "it" bags illustration series (10 Bags)!

What are "it" bags?

It Bag is a colloquial term from the fashion industry used in the 1990s and 2000s to describe a brand or type of high-priced designer handbag by that becomes a popular best-seller.

1. Balenciaga City Motorcycle Tote

Balenciaga's motorcycle-inspired bags are created out of distressed goat leather and easily recognized studs. The 'City' bag in particular, has been causing a stir in the fashion industry after becoming the official handbag of choice for fashionistas like Mary-Kate Olsen and many fashion icons around the world. A classic that every girl would want to lay their hands on!

2. Hermès Birkin
The Hermès Birkin is one of the most widely recognized and widely coveted handbags of recent times. Its structured exterior and astronomical price point has cemented the bag's place in fashion history. One that is widely popular and comes in various sizes and leather's!

3. Chanel 2.55

This little classic will always be "in" and even be passed down from generations. It was born in 1955 (hence the name 2.55) after Coco Chanel decided she wanted a shoulder bag to free up her hands and is inspired py the quilting on Jockeys coats. She feminized the concept of straps from the bags carried by soldiers, and revolutionized the way Parisian women accessorized at the time. Karl Lagerfeld released a second, updated version in 2006.

4. Miu Miu Bow Satchel Bag

Adorable bag with the signature bows that adds a feminie and slight cuteness to the bag, for any sophisticated girl who wants a bag to throw in everything but be able to have a bag that can be pulled off with almost any flirty, sleek outfits you've got.

5. Proenza Schouler PS1

A Flap front bag with metal fold-over closure, leather straps, handle and removable shoulder strap which comes in suede, leather and even python leather.

6. Mulberry Alexa Satchel

One of Mulberry’s hottest bag release so far, named after It Girl Alexa Chung, this little number has been on the minds of fashionistas all around the world. With front twist lock clasp, magnetic stud straps , a single zip pocket and also the adjustable shoulder strap.It’s a functional shape that comes in beautiful colors, and the leather looks slouchy, vintage and luxurious.

7. Prada Gauffre

One of the latest "It-bags" to hit the market ,the Fall/Winter 06/07 Prada Gauffre. Celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry, Beyonce and Madonna have all been seen photographed with theirs.

8. Alexander Wang Coco Duffel bag

First seen on Mary-Kate Olsen even before the runway show, the bag quickly became a hit! The Coco sets itself apart from the pack with two exciting features: the leather and the studs. Black leather is nothing new, but buffalo leather is certainly special. The washed hide has a luxurious texture and a sumptuously soft finish. A gorgeous bag everyone would love!

9. Lady Dior Handbag

Made famous by Princess Diana and named Lady Dior under the princesses' own agreement ,Lady Dior was represented by the something related to a prevailing woman, which is popular among the world-wide women. The cannage of the bag cover is inspirited from a chair of Napoleon III, and has since became a forever classic from that moment on.

10. YSL Muse

This tote is by far the most popular in the YSL collection, and has recently been re-issued. The lock, simple lines, and clever Y shape in the stitching made it a must have for those more interested in quality and elegance than ostentatious bright logos.

After the long wait and months, here is the series of it bags I have been working on for the past few months. Based on classic bags that have been carried and donned by many fashion icons and woman around the world and some recent popular bags that have surfaced in the fashion industry today. Steering away from my usual bright, bold colours, all the illustrations were based on a pastel coloured moodboard, with polka dots (as usual), all emphasizing on the individual features of each bag! Love vans

My favourite kicks in the world, because they are super comfy and for me, would match every other thing in my wardrobe! Because i had to clear off some shoes, i decided to take a quick snap of my first vans that i had to part with, some of which i have sewn over and over again! Shoes with many memories!

Yer Big Break by Kit Kat X Scape.

My artwork for a competition which i just submitted for by Kit Kat and Scape Singapore, 

Yer Big Break!

Bascially the idea was to create an art work, illustration, photograph, collage, any 2D work... The topic was your interpretation of taking a break.

So the following are my developments in creating my artwork: Take a break, doing...

I started off which coming up with the idea of doing a collage or mash up of things that people do while taking a break, and I shall let the pictures do the rest of the talking! 

Things we do while taking a break: drinking coffee, playing sports, reading, drawing, sleeping, snacking, gaming, watching the telly...

Playing around with the placement of the subjects and adding in some colour.

One of the various arrangement I did...

Realised that all the colours looked too much like Macdonald's colours and the red was too bright.

Played around with various red hues and changed the colours, playing around with the placements and balance of it.

Tried putting it all in the shape of a Kit Kat bar.

My final artwork for Yer Big Break!

My artwork shows a collage of the various things people would do when they want to take a break, eg. Drinking a cup of coffee, watching television, snacking, travelling, drawing, shopping, listening to music , anything! Using the Kit Kat red as the central colour of the whole art work, I also made use of black, white and blue which are colours one can find on a Kit Kat bar and the yellows in the piece acts to enhance and brighten it up.

Noel Caleb,Honey In A Rock 2011/2012 collection

Local Label Noel Caleb is back with their second collection, Honey In A Rock!

Something quite different from their previous collection, The Ballerina Diaries, which was one of femininity, drapes, weaves , inspired from ballerinas, their latest collection exudes a softness beyond a strong tough surface. Inspired from multi-faceted and sublime geometric gemstones, the pieces are both strong yet fluid at the same time with colors ranging from jade, to purple to mustard yellows. And not forgetting their collaboration with local jewellery designer Amado Gudeli to form unique resin jewellery.

Something definitely different from the first but still really nice pieces that can be worn in more ways than one.

It bags inspiration and moodboard!

For my upcoming illustration series which would be out soon ( would have to push it back to the next week or so due to my schedule), here are some of the photos, patterns and colors I have incorporated into the series. For a change i decided to work on a fashion based illustration about bags, with the color palette skewed towards the pastels together with the play of patterns.
